Sumiah Aduib is quite famous for rocking her bold looks day in and day out! We were so excited to see her in bright colors lounging around this season as well as donning some of Abaya Addict’s favorite items from Zara S/S 2012! We just had to find out more about what inspires her trendy looks. Here is what we discovered!
AA: Sumiah, we absolutely love your style! Tell us about what defines your fashion sense.
SUMIAH: I am a mix of a classic midwest aesthetic (think tailored pieces that I can wear into my forties) and fresh, trendy, beachy pieces that meld well with my LA, new-mommy lifestyle. My defining style motto is: don’t be afraid to make a statement. Wear that dress that’ll have them wagging their tongues, get that mani that people might call schizo, don that top that your mom wore in her teens. I love figuring out what I’m going to wear — BEST PART OF MY DAY.
AA: Tell us a little bit about what you’re rocking here in this photo.
SUMIAH: Head —> Toe?
Scarf: a hand-me-down from my much more fashionable older sis (yes, I’m not ashamed to admit this. I found it in her Goodwill bag). It’s an ombre orange silk wrap scarf with these small balls sewn into the edge.
Dress: It’s a tie-dye see-through dress from Zara ($69) that I hijabified with a long black lining dress of my own. I wrapped my waist in a slim cognac braided leather Micheal Kors belt ($88) that balances out the loud, psychedelic print of the dress.
Shoes: Also from Zara’s S/S 2012 line. They’re a bright teal suede flat ($49) with a matching teal rounded, toe cap — too funky!
AA: Tell us a bit about your fab accesorries.
SUMIAH: Purse is a tangerine tango (Pantone’s color of the year) classic clutch purse with a rose gold chain strap (this has been spicing up every outfit since the start of spring for me). Since the look was so busy I kept the accessories relatively simple: my WeWOOD Watch ($120) — which hasn’t left its place from my right wrist since February — and a Kenneth Jay lane turquoise marcasite ring ($80 Netaporter.com). Cannot forget the mani/pedi: Essie’s ‘Mint Candy Apple’ on my tips. Essie’s ‘5th Avenue’ on my toes. And Essie’s ‘Set in Stone’ as a funky accent finger.
SUMIAH: My WeWood Watch. It’s a good balance for all the brights of the season and has such a earthy feel. Also the company plants a tree in your honor and name when you purchase one!
Wow, talk about giving back in the name of fashion! We just love Sumiah’s idea of buying clothing that serves its purpose of making us look good and feel good (inside & out!). We know Sumiah will be at this year’s Fashion Fighting Famine– dropping cash for a great charitable cause!
Thank you Sumiah for allowing us to shine our flashing lights on you!
You can try Sumiah’s look by pairing a bold dress with an earthy accesorry! We know it’ll look good on you as it does on her…
